A Lesson From Folorunsho Alakija: “Draw Up A “Things To Do” List On A Daily Basis”

Responsible in 2014 for unseating Oprah Winfrey as the richest black woman in the world, one of the two female billionaires on the African continent, seating gracefully at number 12 on the Forbes Africa’s Richest list, with a net worth of over $2.1 billion, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija is one woman to be applauded.

With a coat of many colors, Mrs Alakija owns a 60% stake in FAMFA Oil Limited; a 617, 000 oil block, she is the CEO of a fashion label called “Rose of Sharon House of Fashion”, she manages a real estate business worth $100 million and she owns a foundation that caters for thousands of widows and orphans.

As a woman who is surely always busy, it is no surprise she insists that as a business person, “it’s essential to draw up a “To Do” list on a daily basis.”

A “To Do” list refers to a list of tasks that needs to be completed and is usually arranged in order of importance.

It is not enough to just draw up the list but she also adds that you must “set priorities in executing them”. This means that you might not have the opportunity to do everything on your list; however, to have a successful business you should on daily basis channel your resources towards the most important aspects.

So, what happens when you make a list for the day and you don’t get to do all your tasks? Mrs. Alakija states that “any unfinished task gets posted to the next day’s list”. She’s of the belief that the key to prosperity is about executing all set tasks, and she measures wealth as one’s success in achieving set targets and goals.

It is not enough to have the dream of making that business the best in x number of years, what steps will you take to get there? What annual goals must be met? What monthly goals must be reached? What tasks must be done DAILY to achieve YOUR dream? All these she placed emphasis on.

Your journey to success truly begins when you have answered those questions, written them down and began to put them in action.

And if you have already answered these questions and are already putting them to work, it is only a matter of time before the millions start rolling in.

So, what are you still waiting for? Start drawing up your list NOW!
